         i am from          bone carved wound          rising oceans          oceanic depths


                          indigenous as bark       pigment                the pulse of breath








                                                          { currents     :     shadows }



                                                                 ‘what water desires’






                                    thirst entwined



         the typhoon i was                          the texture of it


                                                                                        knotted into  wind





Norma Liliana Valdez arrived to California from Mexico in her mother’s pregnant belly. Her work has appeared online in The Acentos Review, As It Ought To Be, and La Bloga. She is an alumna of the Voices of our Nations Arts Foundation (VONA) and the Writing Program at UC Berkeley Extension.
